Who we are #

EFC is a distributed community of creatives, scientists, students, and changemakers.

What we believe #

Computation, including “Big Data” and Artificial Intelligence, can be designed and implemented in a way that is benevolent for our planet.

Every community deserves determination over how their data is used and its effect on their environment.

Our Present #

The energy utilization of data centers is significant and increasing rapidly.

Most people are not aware of the energy utilization of data centers.

Consumers make different choices when they are aware of the true cost of their actions, and they push for political and legal change to address issues they care about.

If people knew about the true cost of data centers, many would alter their behavior.

Our Near Future #

If we continue at our current pace, data centers will produce more emissions than global aviation within two years and could overtake other industries - including residential and automobiles - in certain locales within the decade. In some countries, more than a quarter of all energy produced goes towards data centers.

Our Future: Our Choice #

People become aware of the costs of creating, analyzing, and persisting their data.

People alter their behavior and call for systemic change. Our values, policies, and preferences help us create and utilize technology in a way that is Earth-friendly.

Computation becomes more accessible, more inclusive, and more benevolent for our planet.

Values that benefit all humanity are incorporated into the process of designing, building, and operating data processing centers.
